A misty dreary morning turned into a great day to be up on a rocky summit like Cypress Peak. This is a great route with surprisingly easy access to the alpine. In my car, we were able to drive to around the 9km point up the Chance Creek/Roe creek forest roads. Beyond that point, just a little more clearance is necessary to drive the last couple of km. It is a nice walk however as there are great views of the north face of Tricouni. We didn't discover this until our return due to the morning clouds. Only a few minutes were spent crossing through the forest along the Roe creek and then we emerged at the base of a long boulder field which is the route to the basin above. Once in the basin, the route crosses snowfields along the foot of the glacier and then ascents the ridge on the far side. The ridge up to the summit was an enjoyable scramble with only one short section that required a bit of care. We spent a good long time enjoying the sun and watching the clouds float by before heading down. Do not count on a speedy decent on this trip. We took nearly as long to get down as we did to get up. It was altogether a very nice trip. Thanks to Erez, Michele, and Jen for joining me.
