Went up to Golden Ears Park earlier this week to check out the waterfall on Menzies Creek. I've enclosed a map of the area. Turning off onto Mike Lake Road you quickly come to a junction;the road to the right is to park headquarters (HQ on the map); the left takes you shortly to the Eric Dunning trailhead and further, to Mike lake itself. The Menzies trail is just at the junction and is marked. About 20 mins in you'll hear and soon see the waterfall. I stopped at the falls as the water was a bit deep for my mini schnauzer to cross. Carrying him was out of the question as we'd both end up in the drink! It was quite beautiful and flowing well. I tried to enclose a rather wonky video of it but was unable. It is worth a look. The trail does continue on and usually I go up past the Lookout Trail (rocky),to the actual lookout, which no longer gives you a good view of Alouette Lake but has a nice bench. Then along to and down the Loop trail (firm forest path) and back up via that rocky Lookout trail. But not this time.
After seeing the falls I turned back to the road and then went up to hike the Eric Dunning trail. The forest had a dusting of snow, deeper in some spots, very peaceful, no other soul around. The snow adds to the quietness of the woods somehow. There will be a lot more of it up there now.
Finally drove up to Mike Lake itself for a look around. Again, no one else in sight.
