We arrived at Lynn Headwaters Regional Park at 9am and the first three parking lots were full so we parked on the side of the road. We had a short walk to the BC Mills House, crossed the bridge and took a right onto the gravel road where we came across signage marking the start of the Lynn Loop Trail. We turned left onto the Lynn Loop Trail and after a few minutes of walking, a post clearly marked the start of the Lynn Peak trail. We followed Lynn Peak Trail which is uphill and rocky so best you watch your footing. The terrain changes throughout. One minute you are walking on what appears to be a dried creek bed full of rocks and then it becomes a gravel trail full of roots. This kept the hike interesting. Although the trail continues to climb, there are some steep inclines but also some gentle inclines as well as some flat areas. It does challenge your cardio so not a good choice if you are a beginner.
As we hiked the trail we did not see anyone else until we arrived at the 1/2 point. Two men were coming back down from the viewpoint. These were the first people we had seen on the trail. As we got closer to the viewpoint, we did pass a group of 8 people. When we arrived at the viewpoint there were two groups already there. We stopped for some photos and a snack and then made our way back down.
On the way down is when we began to encounter more hikers as they made their way up the trail. Ensure you watch you footing on the rocky sections of the trail heading back down as all it takes is one loose rock to cause an injury.
I would suggest starting this hike early in the day if you want the trail to yourself. The later you start, the more people you will see. The trail was completely dry and there was no need for bug spray which made it pleasant.
