Coastal hiking at its finest! One of the classic backpacking trails in Olympic National Park and a great trail for people of all skillsets. We hiked in the clockwise direction, doing the forest trail to Sand Point and the Beach portion to Cape Alava on the first day. We lucked out with the tides as we got to the TH right around low tide, so no issues walking on the beach the whole time. It turned out that it was state beach cleanup day on the first day, which we were unaware of, so there were quite a few people hauling out garbage while we were heading in. We had great weather, only 5 minutes of rain through the whole trip. Campsites at Cape Alava were amazing. Water was very tea-coloured, but we had packed all the water in that we needed anyways. Quick trip back to the car in the morning. Boardwalks were in great shape and made for quick walking through the forest trails. Great hike, easily done as a day-hike or a low-stress overnight.
