Fissile is a peak I've tried to get 7 times before - the 8th attempt finally being successful! Talk about a journey to get there. Most of the time by 2pm, Fissile decides to get an afternoon storm so I've often been turned around by weather or conditions. This hike however was worth the wait...what stunning and unique views! I even brought my red party dress for the summit celebration.
The trip from the parking lot to alpine took us a fast 3 hours. We stopped at the brand new hut for a tour - which by the way, is THE most amazing hut I've ever seen. I think it's going to be booked year round all the time. Honestly jaw dropping work (check out the ACC Whistler and Vancouver sections for details).
Most reports have Fissile as a scree slog, but it's really only about 1hr. There's no good way, so just try to find embedded rocks and rock islands to help you out. Once on the ridge, you can move a bit better. As a bonus look for fossils in the scree (we found a LOT of ancient ferns that look like shells).
Overall if you do this hike from the parking lot, it's a long day so you'll need to start early. Anytime the legs get 35km and nearly 2,000m of gain or drop, you're gonna feel it the next day! With the new hut, I'd suggest taking advantage of the views and staying a night :)
