This is a little unknown gem I think. After arriving at the cabin, down went the bags and out I went! I couldn't wait!
Zeus and I ventured up the road a bit to a park like. A few fun signage stood explain this area along with picnic tables. I didn't expect to discover so much here.
We ventured through to a T in the trail. I decided to start off towards the right. It's a well groomed narrow trail which weaves a little through a meadow before coming into the trees. I followed it up a steep incline to the left. It only ascends maybe 100m but very steadily. We continued to trek through the forest with maybe or so view points along the way. I would pop out to each one for a peek and thought...whats a little higher!? The view just kept getting better with elevation gain. And the sun was setting which made it very pictorous!
Along the trail I would see old ruins of the mine. When the mine closed, most of the structures were dismantled and removed. All that remains now are some remnants of foundations, a vault, a root cellar and an old mining cart. A coal seem makes is presents known as well. Interesting area.
Once at the last view point I came across the old mining car. Restored and sitting proudly. I just sat there looking out at the beautiful moutian ranges. Breathtaking! I didn't want to leave. You are also met with Roche Miette shining in its glory smiling up at the sky. It was stunning. Of course it had crossed my mind at that point...how do I get up there?? Lol.
After dragging myself away from the gorgeous views I continued towards the campsites. To your left...before the sites...I heard Punch bowl falls. To my left there is a steep short descend to a small bridge. The falls are currently frozen but you can hear the water flowing beneath.
Continuing from there we came upon the campsites. They were clean with campfire grills in place. Lovely area for a getaway.
I imagine treking up for sunrise would also be excellent. I went a couple times during my stay as the sunset views were so inviting for what I found to be little effort. My plan was nightly but Saturday was a lot of hiking already. :)
A lovely little jaunt with a few archeological mysteries to explore.
Happy trails! 😊
