Looking for a peak that doesn't require lots of hiking. I thought Runner Peak may fit the criteria. I approached it from the First Peak-Elsay Trail junction. It is shorter in distance in this way but there still is a considerable elevation loss about 300m.
After that big dip, Runner Peak became visible. It looks that there are many loose rocks which something that I was not looking for but I decided to continue till I hit a hard a section. And it did look harder than it was actually except the steep section which is located mid way between Elsay Trail and Seymour-Runner col. It was fairly hard. There are several ribbons in that area which was different from the other sections as there was only one ribbon what was way down close to Elsay Trail. After the hard section, it was fun to continue. Most of the boulders are big and stable with good traction.
The scramble to the peak is fairly short about 30m. There are many holds if you follow the right way. It is a good idea to study your route first. On the way down, I tried to follow a more direct way but I was stuck in two difficult steps. After about 5 minutes of trying, I went up again and followed the same way that I took on the way up.
On the way back, I headed west to the ice cap and around mount Seymour via Mount Eslay Trail. The trail is in good condition but few sections have been overgrown. It doesn't seem that this trail is used commonly. Some ribbons are missing and some might not be seen easily perhaps because they are old.
I am glad that didn't turn back early.
