DIRECTIONS: This hike intersects the Appalachian Trail at Wind Gap, PA. The trail head is located at the intersection of Route 33 and State Route 115. Follow Route 33 north from Easton, PA to Route 512. Follow Route 512 to Route 115; parking is a lot on the right just before you reach the Route 33 overpass. Since this is thru-hike, transportation back to the trail head must be arranged. From Delaware Water Gap, parking/pickup can be found either at Lake Road and Mountain Rd, Delaware Water Gap, PA 18327, or Kittatinny Point Information, Highway 80 W, Columbia, NJ 07832.create

Appalachian Trail (wind Gap To Delaware Water Gap)

Taking advantage of a beautiful fall weekend, an overnight trip on the AT seemed to fit the bill. After spending the night at a local motel, we hit the trail around 7AM with the goal of spending the night at the Kirkridge Shelter.
The first section of the trail rises quickly, and with most of the leaves off the trees, the views were spectacular. Though it felt as we spent most of our time staring of into the distance, we quickly ate up the miles to the shelter, and arrived early in the afternoon. With so much light left, we set up camp at the shelter, collected firewood for the night, and did some exploring of the area.
When we got back, we found a local troop of Boy Scouts had arrived at the shelter and set up just above the shelter. With only one fire pit, we stoked up a nice blaze, and invited the troop to join us. Songs and skits entertained all for the evening. Mice entertained the shelter dwellers later that night...
The song of coyotes and roosters served as an early alarm clock, and we were back on the trail by 8. After only seeing a few people on the trail the day before, we were surprised to see so many people on the next section of the trail. Though this section of the trail is shorter than the first, our progress was slower, and it was almost 1PM before we reached the Delaware Water Gap.
