DIRECTIONS: From Kamloops, head North on Highway 5 towards Barriere and Clearwater. Take the exit heading to Sun Peaks (Heffley Louis Creek Road). Follow this until just after Heffley Lake and the trailhead is on the left, with a sign on the road and a sign at the upper trailhead. High clearance recommended for reaching the upper trailhead.create

Was in Kamloops visiting with my family and wanted to head out for a snowshoe with my sister while I was there. Both of us had heard of this one and wanted to check it out, so that was the trip plan. The FSR to the trailhead is about halfway up the road to Sun Peaks, just after Heffley Lake. The snow started right at the road, and we weren't sure of the FSR condition or of the vehicle's capabilities so parked just off the main road. Didn't add too much time or distance to the trip. The first few km are on old road and there's lots of signage all along the way. Easy enough to follow even in the snow, though once the trail turns to single track there are some spots where you could lose the trail in fresh snow, so bringing a GPS track is recommended. Pretty nice area in the snow, some nice sections of deciduous trees and an area of previous logging that opens up some views before the top. Lots of rabbit tracks along the trail. :) At the peak, there's some seating and a gazebo with some decent views. If you continue on for another 5 or so minutes, you descend and come to the end of a ridge that has much better views of Heffley Lake below. Nice day out, with some nice weather for early winter. Took around 3.5 hours round-trip from the road at a decent pace.
