According to my Garmin watch, the cumulative elevation gain was 633 m, more than the Manning Park stated 469 m. It's a steady uphill to the top of Despair Pass; then down the pass; up towards Snow Camp Mountain, down the other side, up towards Lone Goat, then finally down again to Mowich Camp. It's three sets of up and downs. We backpacked so our hiking time was 4.75 hrs.
There were many points along the way where the view was great. The most stunning view is at the top of Despair Pass as you stand on a steep cliff with the wind whipping past you.
It was extremely buggy at Mowich Camp. The bugs get worse around 8 pm so we sheltered in our tent. I would recommend bringing a mosquito net for your head. Just a few minutes west of the camp along the trail is a stream.
The following day, we hiked to the top of Hozameen Ridge for an up-close view of Hozameen Mountain and sweeping views of the valley. This was another highlight of our trip. 10 km return. 388 m elevation gain. Towards the end, the trail is narrow and steep.
