Funny story about the road coming up to this trail. I had read a few reviews saying how it was pretty rough so my hiking buddy and I were expecting the worst. After going on Slesse Memorial’s FSR we figured we could tackle a little roughness. Going to the gravel parking lot was not bad in the slightest. However, it was the return trip that was a little rough. The construction that was ongoing had the workers place count these massive wooden pallets across the road. Consequently it made for a smidge of a rougher return.
Personally I found the trail well marked. Wherever a turn from the main road or side trail was required there was a lovely sign post. The trail itself moderately climbs up the mountain. For the most part it feels like a lot of walk is done on old FSR roads until the rocky climb up into the woodland. From the woodland the trail continues to steadily make its climb before evening out closer to the ridge.
To get some views we walked past the summit and toward a sign indicating the end of the marked trail. There is a well tread path that we followed to an area with larger rocks. After scouting out the area to the left, we settled on the rocks for a view but uncovered later that going to the side leads to a more open meadow where less trees obstruct the view of Alpaca and its neighbouring mountains.
For some reason all the wasps on the mountain were big fans of me. One of them managed to land on my finger, which I was not the biggest fan of. On our return trip we encountered some grouse but that was about it for wildlife. Oh, and there were a few grey jays fluttering about.
