This is not for faint of heart, especially in winter. Need ice-axe, alpine snowshoe right now. In winter, you park at exit 42, add ~600' and maybe 1 mile to your total.
The lower half is zigzag. Not much of snow. You can hike in your boots. Then, it just goes straight up. Very very steep. We had ~16-17 people, I stayed behind, so I didn't need snowshoes. Eventually, I was sinking too much, so put on snowshoes.
At the top ridge, I stashed my snowshoes by a dead tree trunk, and hiked up in microspikes and ice-axe. There're 2 short sections of slick rocks, with not much foot hold. Even ice-axe cannot go in much. Be careful. Half of my group gave up here. Crampons don't help.
