With still a lot of snow up on the mountains and great Sunday forecast, Ruth Mountain was the attractive target.
Later in the season Ruth Glacier will require mountaineering approach but now all the crevasses are filled with snow and it's relatively save to just hike there.
Started a bit late and was at the 'new' trailhead around 9 am. New is about 100 meters from the actual one, but it's not accessible by car due to a washout.
It only added 5 mins extra walking to the actual TH.
First part to the Hannegan Pass was easy with few snow bridges still holding well and few manageable washouts. No snow on the trail till the pass.
Some people camped at the pass and around.
After the pass it's all snow. I have both crampons and microspikes but used only spikes, more of a habit and not a necessity.
Going up from the pass and around the Point 5930 before the ridge to Ruth was probably the most challenging part. But fresh boot path helped a lot.
There were lots of people on the summit when I came and more people were coming up when I started descent.
I guess everyone wanted to take an advantage of good weather and possibility to ascent without much of the mountaineering gear, even though some groups did rope up - mostly for training.
Views on the way up and on the summit were amazing in any direction with Nooksack Glacier and Shuksan in close proximity
On a way down I took an opportunity and glissaded down a bit. Slopes are steep, so if you go for it, be ready to practice a self-arrest to stop.
No bugs noticed which was a pleasant surprise.
Way back was all on the sunny side and it would be tough without being able to refill from the multiple creeks.
