It was Uno Vista for us today. This was the plan from the outset as the weather was...less than ideal.
As mentioned in Rex's previous post, the floating bridge is underwater which meant we had to backtrack to the park entrance and use the service road to get to the trailhead. We walked part way then decided to walk back to the car and drive out to the entrance to avoid the pavement hike. There is no parking at the entrance but a top secret tip from a local gave us an in and we were off.
It was wet but mild. One temperature reading was 12 degrees but I think it was probably closer to 15 or 16 at one point. The trail starts off fairly steep and my understanding is that most of the elevation gain is to the first viewpoint.
We stopped under the wires for an equipment adjustment and we realized after standing around talking for a few minutes that there was a deer chowing down on some foilage no more than 20 feet away. It surmized, correctly, that we were no threat and paid us no attention whatsoever.
Even with the nasty weather, we were fortunate the ceiling was high enough to get some views from the top. The photos aren't great but they do show the potential outstanding views on this hike.
We saw a few hikers/runners on our way back but otherwise pretty quiet out there. Other than toning down the views and making the trail more slick the rain was a non-factor. I figure if you can enjoy hiking in the rain you just open yourself up to more opportunities to get out there.
Our hiking time was just over 3 and a half hours. Only wildlife seen was a deer and a squirrel. Looking forward to doing this one again and taking in the other nueve vistas.
